Paradise Thailand 800 BY 450

In collaboration with Destination TEFL-Cambodia South East Asia’s leading TEFL provider, KruTeacher-Thailand is now offering TEFL / TESOL training programs in exotic locations such as Siem Riep Cambodia, home to Angkor Wat (City of Temples) often considered to be the UNESCO’s best heritage site and in Bali Indonesia (Land of the Gods), appealing to millions through its sheer number of luxuriously soft white sandy beaches, turquoise waters, colorful reefs and the natural beauty of looming volcanoes and lush terraced rice fields. In the pipeline is our brand-new training center in Bangkok Thailand to be opened sometime in 2021. Destination TEFL has been in operation in the region since 2011.

Why Destination TEFL?
Destination TEFL’s course exceeds all international criteria, with emphasis placed on practical teaching experience. Destination TEFL directors and trainers have 50 + years combined experience in both TEFL as well as gap year programs. Our course trainers are highly qualified!
All of the learning is done hands on through games and interactive activities. You will never just be lectured to, but will always be involved in every lesson. The theory in the course is presented by the trainer using games, activities and strategies that you will then be able to use in your own teaching, allowing you to build your portfolio of activities and teaching tools from day one. Your observed teacher practicums will start from week two, when you’ll be able to apply these techniques yourself.
We limit our numbers to small groups, so that we can offer personal assistance with lesson planning and any area you may need help with such as grammar etc. Our practical training includes both children and adult lessons, at various schools and businesses.

Where can I find out more about your course fees?
Our course fees are extremely competitive. Don’t hesitate to email us for an information pack (email address can be found at the bottom of the page).

I don’t have a degree but already have a TEFL. Can you help me with job placement in Cambodia?
We certainly can. However, you must enroll for our TEFL Extension course. This is a shorter cheaper refresher’s course specifically designed for folks who already have a TEFL with a focus on the cultural aspects and expectations of living in exotic Cambodia, Indonesia or Thailand.

What about job opportunities upon program completion?
They are excellent. Schools recruit year-round. We collaborate with a large number schools that are seeking teachers. Prior to sending our graduates to the front lines, we will ensure that they are well prepared. We assist all our graduates with job placement. We do not, however, guarantee anyone a job as the final decision lays in the hands of local HR managers of the schools. Having said this, most of our graduates land their first teaching job fairly quickly. The more flexible you are on work location, the higher the chances you are hired quickly.

What other support do you offer?
We will arrange for transportation to the locations where our teacher practices (TPs) are held - free of charge.
Your trainers will provide you with the support you need to compile lesson plans.
You will also have access to resources such as free internet, a library of teaching books as well as printing and copying facilities on site.

Are non-degreed teachers accepted on your program?

Any photos of past Destination TEFL / KruTeacher graduates "in action" in Cambodia?
Scroll all the way down and you will see them.

What are the work opportunities for non-degreed graduates of Destination TEFL’s programs?
You will be paid a little less (around 15%) than someone with a bachelor’s of Arts, but your opportunities as a native speaker of English in landing a teaching position in Cambodia remains excellent. Cambodia is the only country in South East Asia where teachers can legally teach without a degree. In Indonesia and Thailand, a degree is required to legally gain employment.

Are non-native speakers accepted onto your TEFL programs?
Applications are welcomed regardless of first language or nationality. However, we expect non-native speakers to be proficient in English as our courses are pretty intensive. Non-native speakers will have to undergo a short live interview with a KruTeacher admission representative with the exception of non-native speakers from the Netherlands and Scandinavia, to be able to test their English language aptitude and accent as Cambodian schools prefer to hire natives or near native speakers of English possessing a neutral accent. Destination TEFL and KruTeacher are not too keen on folks registering for our programs, who are mostly motivated by the monetary rewards the teaching profession offers i.e. we’re looking for candidates who are eager to make a difference in a child’s education, have an interest in the country’s culture and come to our training centers with an open mind and oodles of enthusiasm.

I am a non-native speaker with a degree – what are my chances compared to a native speaker with a degree? Will it be more challenging for me to find something?
Your degree should in theory compensate for not being being a native English speaker. However, it is worth noting that South East Asian employers have traditionally had a preference for native speakers and especially native speakers with a degree.
Is it impossible to secure a teaching position as degreed non-native speaker? Absolutely not. You will need to be more proactive and visit more schools than native speakers do - no doubt about that, but many before you have succeeded; there’s no reason you can’t. Seek and you shall find! We will give you equally as much support as we do with all our trainees. But… we cannot guarantee you a job.

IMPORTANT: Chances aren't great in South East Asia for non degreed non native speakers in finding work. Non degreed non natives are welcome on the course of course, but we make no promises. Have some non degreed non natives succeeded in landing jobs? Yes. But these are the determined advernturous types, the ones who don't take no for an answer. The ones who brought enough cash with them to support themselves for the first four months and are extremely flexible on the location of their new school.

IMPORTANT: Non native speakers are not permitted by law to legally teach English in Indonesia no matter how qualified and experieced they are.

After program completion, am I guaranteed a teaching position?
No, we do not promise nor guarantee anyone a teaching position in South East Asia. We do assist with job placement, however. Our degreed native speaking graduates maintain a success rate of 99.9% in landing a teaching position as soon as they have completed our course.

Does Destination TEFL’s course include some extras?
Our course package includes many extras, including airport pick-up, on site accommodation and breakfast, (Siem Reap) or accommodation choices in walking distance to the training center, personal assistance with your CV/resumé, information and the practice of possible questions asked by local HR heads, stationery and supplies, a cultural tour, and much more.

Show me the money?!
Again, we’re more interested in trainees possessing oodles of enthusiasm. Trainees who are willing to immerse themselves in the local culture and are seeking a fresh and very rewarding teaching career as opposed to trainees who have traveled halfway around the globe seeking monetary rewards.

Can I work my way up in the education industry?
You definitely can. In fact, many schools have foreign heads of departments. If they can make it to the top, you surely can too!

What about my family in my home country?
We do not recommend you bring your family with you at least not during your first year. Get settled first then decide if you want to bring your dependents!
You can consider us as your family in Siem Riep. We, Destination TEFL and KruTeacher are genuinely interested in our trainees, and don't view them as just numbers. We stay in touch with our graduates after each course, and get regular updates on their teaching careers and travels. Many of our teaching job leads come from past students for this reason.

Can I work in a different Asian country upon successful course completion?
KruTeacher and Destination TEFL are connected to many schools and agencies in Cambodia, Vietnam, Thailand, and also China and other countries, as well as a private Facebook groups/pages where job listings are posted, only to our graduates. This means that you have up-to-date info on current jobs available, with many of these agents contacting us before listing the jobs elsewhere. Many of our trainees do a semester to a year in Cambodia and move to a different country through our network of agencies and school in Asia.

What is the difference between TEFL and TESOL?
The terms basically mean the same, with TEFL more common in the UK, and TESOL more common in America. There is a slight technical difference since TESOL refers to learners whose first language is not English, although they may speak English in their daily lives. TEFL refers to 'foreign' students, learning English as a foreign language. These students do not use English regularly and therefore have different usage and comprehension problems. Our courses cover both aspects.

My grammar skills aren't the best - this makes me a little nervous to do the course. What’s your advice?
We understand that it may have been a while since you studied grammar at school. However, as a native speaker or a non-native speaker, you already know grammar quite well, it's more the terminology that you may not know. We can send you an easy-to-use grammar workbook before you start the course, so that you can brush up in your own time prior to the course starting. During the course we work through this material to ensure that you are familiar with grammar as well as its terminology before you become a teacher.

Do I need knowledge of other languages?
No. Destination TEFL uses the international standard communicative approach to teaching, where English is the only language used in the classroom. These methods are thoroughly explained and practiced during the course. This means that you will be able to use your new TEFL qualification to travel the world, and finance this wanderlust by teaching.

How difficult is the TELF course for a non-native speaker of English?
You need to know English well; the only requirements are a proficient level of both spoken and written English and an understanding of the intensive nature of the course. Please be aware that some schools will only employ native English speakers (NES). We cannot guarantee placements for non-native speakers (NNES). If you are unsure, let’s set up a Skype interview before you sign up so we can see your level of English and therefore employment prospects.

Is there an age limit to do the TEFL course?
We have no official upper age limit, but you must be 20 years of age or older for your application to be considered. If you are wanting to do the course but do not require job placement, we may consider school leavers aged 18-19 years, based on a Skype interview. If you are a person of 'more mature years', don't let this put you off applying. If you are receptive to learning, you should have no problems. We have many mature students taking 'Golden Gap Years', not quite ready to retire yet.
NOTE: Some employers may have an upper age limit, especially if the job is with younger children, due to the energy level required for this kind of teaching, therefore our job guarantee for NES has an upper limit of 55 years of age, due to restrictions at some schools.

Will my Destination TEFL certificate be recognized around the world?
Yes. Upon successful completion of our 4-week TEFL course, you will receive a certificate which is recognized worldwide. Destination TEFL's course meets and exceeds the basic international criteria, as we offer 140 hours of classroom time and observed teaching practice. You will also receive a detailed report card, and those who obtain a merit or higher, will receive a personalized letter of recommendation.

Where can I work with a TEFL certificate?

Work is available almost anywhere in the world where English is not the native language. There are many opportunities within Asia specifically, but not exclusively. Some countries require teachers to have a degree (any) as well as a TEFL qualification. A list can be provided on request. Many of our graduates choose to teach online after the course, which is a good option for those travelling - a good internet connection is required, and we supply a list of online agencies to our graduates.

Will I find work after the course?
If you are signed up and are accepted onto one of our ‘course plus placement programs’ and pass the course, we offer teaching placement assistance. This applies to both degree and non-degree holders for jobs in Cambodia, Indosesia and Thailand. Degree holders will obtain a higher salary and have more options.
Please note: Legally, to work as a teacher in a government or international school in Thailand or Vietnam, you also need to have a university degree in order to obtain a work permit.

What salary can I expect to earn as a teacher in Southeast Asia?
As a native English speaker without a degree and your TEFL course complete, you can expect to earn approximately 900 USD to 1200 USD a month in Cambodia as well as Bali. Degree holders can expect more, sometimes even double that. In Thailand, most of the jobs we list are between 1000 USD and 1500 USD, some exceed 1500 USD (degree holders only). If you have a PGCE or Ed degree, expect much more. In Vietnam, salaries average salaries average 1,500 USD per month and up.

Is the TEFL Course intensive? Will I have time to see the sights?
Yes, the course is intensive, and you will need to commit yourself to some independent study and lesson planning time outside of the classroom, but we schedule quite a bit of time within the 4-week TEFL course for planning and preparation. If you balance your workload and make good use of your time in the classroom, you will have weekends to enjoy the sights around Siem Reap and surrounding areas, or Bali and its fabulous beaches. Our course and accommodation are centrally located within Siem Reap for evenings out. The accommodation in Bali is a short walk from the beach.

What should I bring with me to the course and to Cambodia or Bali?
An open mind and a sense of humor!
Your original degree and transcripts if you are a degree holder, so we can apply for the best jobs according to your qualifications.
Your prepared CV/resumé, and we’ll assist you in tweaking it for the local job market.
A police clearance certificate/criminal background check is now required to apply for a work permit as a teacher.
Please ensure you get one before coming to Cambodia or Thailand, as it’s easier to get this in your home country than while here. For the police check for UK Citizens, we now recommend going through DBS Scotland (http://www.disclosurescotland.co.uk/basicdisclosureonline), as it is easier and cheaper. It will take you to the Basic Disclosure application, which is what most people from the UK use to get the visas sorted in Asia. It costs £25 and takes around 14 days to be sent to you by post. It does not ask for any reasoning for the application, so will be much easier than the ACRO option. South Africans can apply via VeriSource. For US citizens is the FBI check (http://www.nationalbackgroundcheck.com/FBI%20channeling%20all.pdf).

What to bring?
Bringing a laptop or tablet (whichever you find easier to work on) will make your time on the course, as well as afterwards as a teacher, much easier. You'll need to do research and resource for lesson plans, type up lesson plans, etc. We do have two computers at the training center, but these are for printing purposes only. Afterwards, you will really need one for teaching, so we strongly suggest you bring something with you.
Everything else as per normal travel requirements and personal effects.

What are visa and work permit costs for Cambodia?
Initial one-month business visa 35 USD, payable on arrival in Cambodia, followed by either a one-month (58USD), 3 months (90 USD) or 6 months (170 USD) extension within your first two weeks of arrival. Then one-year business visa (no border runs required) 300 USD/year, payable within your first month of employment.
Work permit: Sometimes paid for by the school, but not always, so budget for this at 200 USD/year.
Remember that you will only get paid after your first month of working, so budget for time before starting work, then first month’s work, as well as rental deposit.

What are visa and work permit costs in Bali?
Most countries are able to enter Bali free of charge for 29 nights/30 days. This course falls in that time frame so you will be covered.
However, if you plan on staying any longer you need to purchase an “on arrival visa” upon arrival (at the cost of around 30 USD paid in cash) which will allow you to extend your visa for an additional 30 days.
There are many visa agencies that can help this process once you are here. The cost is around $80usd. You are also able to arrange a 60 days Visa before you travel through an Indonesia embassy. Look on line to find the one closest to you, and also to check if your country has any other restrictions.

What are visa and work permit costs in Thailand?
Most nationalities can enter Thailand with a visa exempt stamp for 30 days, which can be extended at any immigration office by another 30 days for 1,900 baht, giving you 60 days before you need a new visa for working. The visa for working is called a non-immigrant B visa, and rates vary depending on whether they are done via an agent or in person, and how long is granted (90 days or one year) – between 2,000 and 5,000 baht. The work permit costs approximately 3,000 baht. There is no hard and fast rule, but generally the teacher pays for their non-immigrant B visa and the school for the work permit.

Do I need to go quarantine upon my arrival in Cambodia?
On arrival you will do two nights in Phnom Penh while waiting out the results of the Covid-19 test. You will have to stay in the hotel room during this time. After receiving your negative test results back, you are then free to travel to anywhere in Cambodia and come to our training center in Siem Riep.
In Siem Riep you have to isolate. Our training center is at the same hotel where you stay at, so you can do the course while in isolation - you are not confined to your room and you can enjoy the pool, restaurant etc.
Your accommodation will be in a great hotel. For more of the hotel visit www.isirafu.com
You cannot leave the hotel for these first two weeks, but the practicums start in week three so that's fine.
On day 13 you will be taken to the clinic for your next and final COVID-19 test - and when you get the results back the next day, if negative (99.9% of our trainees are), you are then free to come and go as you please.

URGENT - UPDATE - 19.11.2020

The situation has unfortunately changed as of 18 November 2020 and Cambodia is now requiring a two-week quarantine period in a hotel for all new arrivals in the capital. Hotels cannot be pre-booked currently. Your hotel in the capital costs around 1,300.00 USD. You are now only permitted to travel to Siem Riep after completing a two-week quarantine period in the capital.

How many people are infected by Covid-19 in Cambodia and South East Asia?
So far Cambodia and South East Asia have been spared from the mass infections during the Coronavirus pandemic hitting the globe. Cambodia registered only a few hundred infections. Infections are equally as low in countries such as Thailand, Laos and Vietnam. In fact, infections are so rare in the region that one single COVID-19 infection over a period of three months becomes headline news overnight.
Bars, restaurants and all forms of entertainment remain therefore open. It is however recommended to wear a mask in public as to not offend the locals, who take pride in the low almost non-existent Covid-19 infections.

What about lockdowns in Cambodia due to the raging pandemic?
There are no lockdowns. Cambodia and neighboring countries have largely been spared by the Coronavirus.

When is the start of the school year in Cambodia?
The new school year in Cambodia starts in October, but there are jobs year-round - it's never been a problem for placements for our native speaking graduates.

What about holidays in Cambodia? I don’t live to work!
Teachers typically get to enjoy the public holidays of which there are 22 plus an additional 18 days paid leave.

What are your do your alumni say about Destination TEFL?
Our reviews have been excellent and we take pride in that. Reviews from graduates on an independent review site, (not the TEFL provider’s own website) are also a good indication of the quality of a course. Destination TEFL is proud of their 120 verified reviews, at an average rating of 99% on GoOverseas > www.gooverseas.com/provider.

Is accommodation included?
Yes. You will stay at the lovely Isirafu Hotel Siem Reap: www.isirafu.com
Should you prefer a private room, there is a surcharge from $200 for the course period – subject to availability. Breakfast is included in your package rate.

Interested! How do I enroll?
Send us an email, so that we can process your application. We will need a copy of your passport, your current contact details, information on your education and the course that you’re interested in.
Upon receipt of your information, we will email you our bank details and ask you to book a place by paying KruTeacher a booking fee (the booking fee is needed to secure a place on the course).
You are allowed to postpone your travels to a later date in case of sickness or delay as long as you let us know in advance. We do not refund booking or course fees.
You can pay your final course fees in full directly to Destination TEFL in Cambodia within 14 days of initial acceptance and sign-up/booking and payment made to KruTeacher.
Note, if you sign up within 14 days of the actual course date, the final course fees including the booking fee should be paid to Destination TEFL Cambodia and not KruTeacher Thailand.

Which is cheaper, booking a place on the course through KruTeacher or Destination TEFL?
You will save anywhere between 100 USD and 200 USD on course fees by booking through KruTeacher. Also, we only require payment to reserve your place on the course, which is roughly 25% of the total course fee. And again, we can move the date in case of postponement of your trip due to sickness at no extra cost.

I want to pay all course fees upon my arrival at my destination – is this possible?
This is not possible for logistical reasons.
