Write or Paste Ad in English The Mandarin Teacher position at Windfield International School Koh Samui offers a full-time role within the British Secondary Section, specifically in the Modern Foreign Languages department. The role focuses on teaching students in Years 7–11, covering Cambridge Lower Secondary Mandarin and the IGCSE Mandarin – Foreign Language curriculum. The monthly salary starts at 35,000 Baht but may be negotiable based on qualifications and experience.

The successful candidate will report to the Head of Languages, the IGCSE Coordinator, and the Head of Secondary. The position requires delivering engaging and academically challenging lessons that not only prepare students for exams but also inspire a genuine interest in the Mandarin language and Chinese culture.

Central to the role is the design and delivery of structured lessons that develop the four key skills of listening, speaking, reading, and writing. Teachers are expected to adopt communicative and task-based approaches, ensuring lessons cater to students at beginner, intermediate, and advanced levels of language proficiency.

Students must be prepared for all components of the IGCSE Mandarin exam, with a particular focus on oral communication. Beyond language skills, teachers will also introduce cultural traditions, practices, and social norms, allowing students to build a broader understanding of Chinese society through classroom activities, projects, and media.

Assessment is a key part of the role, with the teacher expected to use both formative and summative methods to track progress. Individual feedback should be provided regularly, and accurate records of student achievement must be maintained, whether through CEFR standards or the school’s own benchmarks. Participation in parent-teacher conferences will also be required.

Differentiation and support are vital in an international school setting. The Mandarin teacher will scaffold lessons to meet the needs of English as an Additional Language learners and mixed-proficiency groups, using visual aids, modelling, and guided practice. Collaboration with the SEN and EAL departments will sometimes be necessary to ensure inclusive learning opportunities.

The role also involves active participation in school life beyond the classroom. This includes working closely with fellow language teachers to ensure curriculum alignment, attending department meetings, and contributing to curriculum planning and moderation.

Cultural involvement is encouraged, with teachers expected to support or lead Mandarin-themed events such as Chinese New Year celebrations, Language Week, or other cultural initiatives. They may also contribute to language clubs and co-curricular activities that extend Mandarin learning in creative and engaging ways.

Applicants must hold a bachelor’s degree in Mandarin, Modern Languages, Education, or a related field, as well as a recognised teaching qualification such as a PGCE or B.Ed. A minimum of two years’ experience teaching Mandarin in secondary education is required, along with proficiency at a native or near-native level (HSK 6 or equivalent). Strong English skills, both spoken and written, are also essential for communication in the school’s international environment.

Preferred qualifications include prior experience teaching in international or multilingual schools, knowledge of CEFR language levels, and experience using differentiated teaching strategies. Proficiency in digital tools like Google Classroom, Quizlet, Wordwall, or Du Chinese is also highly valued. In addition, candidates with experience organising cultural or language-related trips and events will be at an advantage.

Teachers at Windfield International School are expected to maintain high professional standards. They should uphold the school’s ethos of respect, inclusion, and international-mindedness, while fostering enthusiasm for language learning and intercultural understanding. A reflective and proactive approach to professional growth is strongly encouraged.

Finally, the role requires teachers to actively contribute to a collaborative and innovative learning community. By maintaining high standards of planning, professionalism, and classroom engagement, the Mandarin Teacher will play a vital role in supporting students’ academic and personal development while enriching the school’s international environment.
