Native speaker

Maitreya Dharma School in Chiang Mai is recruiting a dedicated, passionate, and innovative Secondary Homeroom Teacher to join its small and vibrant educational community in Hang Dong and the beautiful Mae Taeng valley.

The school aims to nurture a healthy, joyful, and compassionate next generation who can benefit themselves and others while developing the wisdom and skills needed to lead the future.

Its educational approach focuses on developing the whole child through inner stability and wisdom, future-ready skills, project-based learning, artificial intelligence, and meaningful connections with nature.

Students are encouraged to develop concentration, resilience, self-awareness, and wisdom through Dharma and the Ten Paramitas, while also building cognitive, interpersonal, self-leadership, and digital skills needed for the modern world.

The school combines project-based learning with artificial intelligence, encouraging students to use technology as a learning partner while developing their ability to analyze information, innovate, and solve real-world problems.

Learning also takes place outdoors in the natural valley environment, where students explore ecosystems, develop an appreciation for nature, and learn to live harmoniously with plants, animals, and other living things.

The school is looking for educators with youthful energy, an open mind, a positive attitude, and fresh ideas about education. Candidates should be interested in rethinking traditional approaches to learning and supporting students in their overall development as human beings.

The successful applicant will be an experienced and qualified native English speaker who enjoys project-based, inquiry-based, and outdoor experiential learning and will work closely with a Chinese co-teacher to support a small group of Year 7 students between approximately 11 and 15 years old.

The ideal teacher should genuinely enjoy working with children and appreciate a natural lifestyle, while being comfortable spending considerable time outdoors leading hands-on activities, exploration, and real-world learning experiences.

Teaching responsibilities will include planning and delivering engaging Secondary lessons such as English and Maths, incorporating project-based and inquiry-based approaches, as well as creating interactive activities and collaborative projects that encourage students to actively participate in their learning.

Teachers will also guide students through phenomenon-based learning, using practical experiences and real-world events in nature to explore broader concepts rather than teaching subjects in isolation, while creating lively and dynamic lessons that go beyond traditional textbook instruction.

The successful candidate will work collaboratively with the Chinese co-teacher and contribute to a supportive team environment while helping students develop academically, emotionally, socially, and through mindfulness and personal awareness.

Applicants should be physically healthy, energetic, enthusiastic, and passionate about natural living and outdoor education, with strong skills in facilitating hands-on learning, designing interactive projects, and creating flexible, vibrant, and student-centered lessons.

Experience or an interest in Buddhism, meditation, Dharma education, interdisciplinary learning, and contributing positively to the wider community would be highly valued, along with a genuine commitment to working for the benefit of others.

Applicants must hold a Bachelor’s degree and an internationally recognized teaching qualification such as a PGCE, US teaching license, or Bachelor of Education, be a native English speaker with excellent communication skills, have experience teaching secondary students, and be willing to commit to at least one year.

The position is full-time in Chiang Mai and offers a salary of 35,000 Baht per month.
