Recruitment season has officially ended. We strongly advise anyone considering traveling to Thailand in search of work to postpone their trip until the end of February. This is when schools begin recruiting foreign teachers again for the new school semester, which typically starts between May 1 and May 15.
While there are still job postings on our Jobs page, please note that these positions are highly competitive, with a pool of locally available teachers actively applying. Unless you are a licensed school teacher, your chances of securing a position at this time are quite slim.
Some international schools are still hiring for positions starting on January 3. To explore these opportunities, visit the "International Schools" section under the Menu on this site.
Some agencies, including Thailand’s most reputable ones e.g. Teachers For Thailand, are still recruiting. We recommend reaching out to them directly to inquire about available positions.

28 March
For teachers aspiring to earn no less than $3,000 per month, our recommendation is to focus on applying for teaching positions at international schools. Naturally, you'll need to be a licensed and experienced teacher from your home country and possess the appropriate credentials. However, it's not uncommon for teachers to earn between $2,500 and $6,000 per month when teaching at one of Thailand's top-tier international schools. Any international school offering less than $2,500 as your monthly salary is evidently only international in name.
26 March

In Thailand's most popular Facebook group for foreign teachers, "Teaching Jobs in Thailand," we often come across the same question posed by newcomers to the teaching scene in Thailand: "How can I secure a teaching job in a market with such fierce competition?" Our advice is to cast a wide net and apply to as many job openings as possible. This recommendation holds true because there are consistently teachers leaving their positions, either voluntarily because of a disagreement with the school's administrators, or an emergency back home, or due to immediate dismissal. Even if you apply to a school that had initially advertised a position several months ago, there's still a chance they are in urgent need of someone. This presents a golden opportunity for you to commence work at the school immediately, giving you the upper hand in outpacing the competition from other teachers.

New teachers in Thailand:
Thai students typically exhibit a relaxed demeanor, making them enjoyable and receptive learners. However, it's important to acknowledge that teenagers, regardless of their nationality, may occasionally display rowdy behavior. It is therefore crucial to establish your authority right from the outset. While you can gradually adopt a more relaxed approach as the semester unfolds.
During the initial weeks, it's imperative for students to recognize you as the teacher and themselves as the learners. This approach will garner appreciation from Thai school administrators and students alike, not to mention the stress-free teaching experience it will afford you in the classroom.
"Understanding Your Class" is a true masterpiece written by KruTeacher's guest blogger, veteran teacher, Collen, it covers all aspects of teaching and understanding your students as a foreign teacher at your new school.

Some of the topics new teachers in Thailand should avoid discussing in the classroom are:
- Politics
- The monarchy
- Religion
Some things foreign teachers in Thailand should definitey not do:
- Defame a person or a business verbally or online as this could land you in jail. Thailand probably has the world's severest defamation laws. Thais who feel they're wrongly defamed will not hesitate using those laws against anyone.
- Point at someone or something with your feet or touch someone's head.
- Raise your voice when speaking or shout at someone even when facing a difficult situation.
- Start a fight with Thais. You can't win. They are very quick calling their family and friends and you'll be in hospital in no time. Instead, walk away.
- Criticize a Thai. There is a strong likelihood that they may lose face over it.
- Smoke in public. Most Thais don't smoke and will not approve of you lighting up near them.
- Litter in public. If caught you will be fined.
- Walk into a school dressed like a backpacker or flashing your tattoos.

Some usful advice for new teachers in Thailand:
- You need not pay any fees to a Thai teacher recruitment agency; a reputable agency would never make such a request.
- Studying for a TEFL/TESOL is unnecessary unless you lack classroom experience or aim to work primarily at language schools. Most Thai school administrators are unfamiliar with these certifications; possessing a degree is the crucial requirement. Teaching in Thailand mandates a degree by law.
- Ignore individuals who consistently criticize Thailand or exhibit negativity; many have spent extensive time here and struggle with homesickness. It's best to disassociate from them to maintain a positive outlook on life in Thailand.
- Save your money by avoiding unnecessary payments for Thai attractions, barring a few exceptions like protected national parks. Websites like Klook offer affordable tickets, or you can ask a local to purchase tickets for you.
- Maintain composure and avoid confrontations or raised voices in challenging situations. In most instances, displaying anger will lead to a loss of respect from Thais, causing them to disregard your concerns.
- Be cautious of Thailand based foreign expats who overly idealize Thai culture, attempting to replicate it. They may harbor negative sentiments towards their home countries and tend to be unresponsive to balanced viewpoints based on factual information.
- Don't assume that all Thais are enthusiasts of marijuana consumption; the majority actually abstain from it.
- Read this masterpiece if you're serious on finding work in Thailand.

- "Can I find a job as a non native speaker in Thailand?"
This question we get asked via our "Ask KruTeacher" form dozens of times per day. The answer is yes. If you have a Bachelor's of Arts and some teaching experience under your belt you can find work in Thailand. Hint: especially experienced subject teachers are in short supply. So if you're capable of teaching Science, click on here and start applying today, schools are desperate. Most English teaching jobs are reserved for native speaking teachers, however, there are enough schools that will consider a non-native speaking English teacher with a neutral accent and with near fluency of the English language i.e. capable of speaking English like a native speaker, well almost. Not long ago, guest blogger Mandy sent us a great blog on this very topic. Read it here.

23 July
- It is rather perplexing to witness the prevailing negativity on KruTeacher's popular Facebook group regarding remuneration packages offered by Thai schools. Especially when there is an abundance of lucrative teaching opportunities available for foreign teachers in numerous international and bilingual schools, all actively seeking qualified capable teachers in subjects like Mathematics, Science, Chemistry, Biology, and Physics, particularly at the secondary level. Thai schools are more than willing to offer competitive remuneration, often exceeding 75,000 Baht per month. In fact, the demand for subject teachers in Thailand has reached critical levels, leading to a massive shortage in the talent pool. This has consequently put foreign subject teachers in a position of high demand and gives them greater leverage when negotiating their pay and benefits. These schools will often consider natives as well as non natives for these positions. Yes, you are reading it right, "capable" non-native speaking teachers are also considered for these positions! Check out teaching positions here and here.

- "Where are them natives?", Thai schools often ask themselves. Reality check; native English speakers holding a degree in any field are and will always be in very short supply in Thailand due to the often not so attractive remuneration packages by schools.
Native speakers, particularly the ones holding a teaching license from their home countries will often skip Thailand for the Middle East and China thinking pay is so much better there. This is a myth! Reputable first tier international schools offer extremely competitive remuneration packages for licensed and experienced native speaking teachers. These positions are advertised mainly on TES and Schrole, though, and non lincesed teachers, or teachers holding a degree in an unrelated field will in most cases not be considered for these positions.
